Claims that Shastri had access to some original version while translating Kairegai Palangal Tamil are unsubstantiated. There is no evidence to suggest that he used any more than the same text that was published in 1881. The 1724 edition has been denoted by the Hindu house numbering system with an alpha prefix. This is usually reserved for the first edition of works of classical Tamil literature, not astrology texts. This edition also appears to have been published without an official license, which may account for the adoption of a different publishing scheme by subsequent editions. This scheme included a title page, an introduction, an index and lettering system for each day in Tamil month.
